Unofficial guide

Your first trade on XO, in plain words

For football fans who are new here. Seven short steps, about five minutes, and you'll know what every number on the screen means.

STEP 1

Know where to look

The app has four tabs at the top. They are easy to mix up.

MarketsQuestions set up by the XO team, plus user questions that got enough trading to “graduate”.
ConvictionsQuestions made by users. Most Premier League questions live here. If you create one, look for it here, not in Markets.
PulseFive-minute rounds on whether Bitcoin goes up or down. Not football.
ParlaysContests where you pick every result of a round. You enter with points (CP), not money.
STEP 2

Add money

You trade in USDC, a digital dollar: 1 USDC is worth about $1. Add it from a crypto wallet, by sending crypto, or by buying with a card. It lands in your XO wallet.

On your first trade the app asks you to Enable Trading. That's a one-time step, and it's normal.

STEP 3

Read the price

Every question has two answers: Yes and No. If your answer is right, each share pays $1. If it's wrong, it pays $0. The price is what one share costs.

So a price of 45¢ means the crowd thinks it's about a 45% chance. Cheap means unlikely, expensive means likely.

45¢about a 45% chance
  • You get22.2 shares
  • If you're right, you receive$22.22
  • If you're wrong, you receive$0
  • Your money grows by2.22×

Yes and No add up to about $1. Buying No at 55¢ is the same as saying “I think it won't happen”.

STEP 4

Buy the smart way

Other users sell shares at different prices. When you buy, you have two choices:

MarketBuy right now from whoever is selling. Fast, but if few people are selling, you can pay much more than the price you saw.
LimitYou set the highest price you'll pay. You never pay more. If nobody sells that low yet, your order waits.
Try it. Example: people selling Yes shares on one question.

Before you confirm a real order, the ticket shows the average price and the most you can pay. Check them. Most markets work like this; older ones are labelled differently on the card.

STEP 5

Changed your mind? Sell

You don't have to wait for the final whistle. You can sell your shares any time to someone who wants to buy them. If news goes your way, the price rises and you can take your profit early.

$9.90you paid
$15.40you get if you sell now
+$5.50your profit

You can only sell if someone is buying at that moment.

STEP 6

Read the rules first

Every question has rules under Rules & Resolution. In Convictions, the person who made the question writes them, so they're not all equally clear. Before you buy, check four things:

STEP 7

Get paid: press Claim

When a question is settled, your winning shares don't turn into money by themselves. You collect them: open the market page or your Portfolio, press Claim (or Claim All for everything at once) and approve. Your balance can take a little while to update, so don't press it twice.
